Edouard Taufenbach et Bastien Pourtout travaillent ensemble depuis 2018 autour du médium photographique dans toutes ses déclinaisons : prise de vue mais surtout, collages, agencements, performances et installations. Puisant dans des images existantes comme matière pour s’inspirer et créer de nouvelles pièces, le duo manipule la réalité, le temps, le mouvement et les lieux. C’est donc tout naturellement que le duo s’intéresse à la technologie NFT et sa proximité avec la photographie : Entre la capture du temps à l’image et l’horodatage d’une image sur la blockchain, la démarche est semblable.

Edouard Taufenbach et Bastien Pourtout présentent pour le salon virtuel deux séries ancrées dans le monde physique, qu’ils ont choisi d’étendre au numérique à travers la création de NFT, et ainsi, d’images en mouvement. D’une part, Le Bleu du Ciel, série lauréate du Prix Swiss Life à 4 mains en 2020 en collaboration avec le compositeur Régis Campo, et notamment présenté au salon a ppr oc he. A partir du sujet de l’hirondelle, les artistes développent une représentation sensible du passage du temps, du mouvement, et des échanges et circulations au sein d’un espace. A l’échelle du vol, le mouvement des hirondelles dans le ciel est l’objet d’une fascination qui nourrit l’imaginaire. Les oiseaux semblent suivre une partition faite de ruptures, d’accélérations et de silences, dessinant des formes abstraites comme des signes à interpréter. Entre rigueur formelle et narration subjective, la recherche déploie une approche où l’hirondelle en vol figurant un vecteur de force, donne forme et matière à un insatiable désir de liberté avec le ciel pour perspective. Plusieurs œuvres numériques issues de cette série ont été acquises par la Fondation Swiss Life.

D’autre part, la série Le jardin qui bascule, deuxième drop NFT du duo, prend vie dans les espaces liés à la nature, forgés par les siècles et la main des Hommes. Chaque thème représente une expression autour d’un espace commun construit par leur sensibilité respective, dans une collaboration étroite. Les NFT issus de cette série sont des réinterprétations d’images existantes, un assemblage perpétuel en mouvement. Ainsi, Le jardin qui bascule représente un pont entre l’art physique et numérique, la création analogue et digitale.

Edouard Taufenbach and Bastien Pourtout have been working together since 2018, exploring the photographic medium in all its forms: shooting, but more importantly, collages, arrangements, performances, and installations. Drawing from existing images as material for inspiration and new creations, the duo manipulates reality, time, movement, and space. It is therefore natural that they became interested in NFT technology and its connection to photography: between capturing time in an image and timestamping an image on the blockchain, the approach is similar.

For the virtual salon, Edouard Taufenbach and Bastien Pourtout present two series rooted in the physical world, which they chose to extend into the digital space through the creation of NFTs and, consequently, moving images. On one hand, Le Bleu du Ciel, a series that won the Swiss Life Prize at 4 hands in 2020 in collaboration with composer Régis Campo, and which was notably presented at the a ppr oc he salon. Based on the subject of the swallow, the artists develop a sensitive representation of the passage of time, movement, and exchanges and flows within a space. At the scale of flight, the movement of swallows in the sky is a source of fascination that nourishes the imagination. The birds seem to follow a score made of breaks, accelerations, and silences, drawing abstract forms like signs to be interpreted. Between formal rigor and subjective narration, the research unfolds an approach where the swallow in flight, representing a vector of force, gives shape and substance to an insatiable desire for freedom with the sky as its perspective. Several digital works from this series have been acquired by the Swiss Life Foundation.

On the other hand, the Swinging Garden (Le jardin qui bascule) series, the duo’s second NFT drop, comes to life in spaces connected to nature, forged by centuries and human hands. Each theme represents an expression of a shared space built through their respective sensitivities, in close collaboration. The NFTs from this series are reinterpretations of existing images, a perpetual assembly in motion. Thus, Swinging Garden represents a bridge between physical and digital art, between analog and digital creation.

Bastien Pourtout est diplômé d’un Master en Histoire économique et sociale à Paris X (2012) et d’un Master en Photographie et Art contemporain à Paris VIII (2019). Edouard Taufenbach est diplômé d’un Master en Arts et Médias numériques à Paris I (2014).
Ils travaillent ensemble depuis la série Spéculaire (2018-2019) autour de la collection de photographies vernaculaires de Sébastien Lifshitz. Les collages réalisés sont présentés à la galerie Binome, à Paris Photo la même année, et l’année suivante à Rome, à Londres, à Mexico et à New York, au festival de Photographie d’Athènes, ainsi qu’à la Villa Noailles. Ils publient une monographie sur ce projet avec les Éditions l’Artière.
En 2020 Ils sont lauréats du Prix Swiss Life à 4 mains. Ils partent en résidence à la villa Médicis pour réaliser ce travail et décident à leur retour de devenir un duo artistique. Ce projet est exposé au Musée de la Piscine à Roubaix, au salon a ppr oc he, dans divers galeries et à Arles pour Les Rencontres de la photographie. Ils réalisent une seconde publication avec les éditions Filigranes. L’année suivante ils entament leur collaboration avec la Galerie C et présentent en 2023 l’exposition Le jardin qui bascule dans l’espace parisien. Ce projet s’est poursuivi par une seconde exposition cette année, Je suis très emballé.e. Ces deux travaux autour des jardins seront montrés cet automne à Paris Photo. Le duo est lauréat du Prix Maison Ruinart 2024.

Bastien Pourtout holds a Master’s degree in Economic and Social History from Paris X (2012) and a Master’s in Photography and Contemporary Art from Paris VIII (2019). Edouard Taufenbach holds a Master’s degree in Arts and Digital Media from Paris I (2014). They have been working together since the series Spéculaire (2018-2019) based on the collection of vernacular photographs from Sébastien Lifshitz. The collages created were presented at the Binome Gallery, at Paris Photo in the same year, and the following year in Rome, London, Mexico, New York, at the Athens Photography Festival, and at Villa Noailles. They published a monograph on this project with Éditions l’Artière.
In 2020, they won the Swiss Life Prize at 4 hands. They went on residency at the Villa Medici to create this work and decided upon their return to become an artistic duo. This project was exhibited at the Musée de la Piscine in Roubaix, at the photographic salon a ppr oc he, in various galleries, and at Arles for the Rencontres de la Photographie. They published a second book with Éditions Filigranes. The following year, they began their collaboration with Galerie C and presented the exhibition Le jardin qui bascule in the Paris space in 2023. This project was followed by a second exhibition this year, Je suis très emballé.e. These two works around gardens will be shown this fall at Paris Photo. The duo is the winner of the 2024 Maison Ruinart Prize.
