Anatomy of a mythology

The christian berst art brut gallery presents an extract from an anonymous photographic collection that has changed hands several times. Hundreds of amateur prints from a decade, between 1996 and 2006, testifying to the fetishism of its author.
This is manifested through shots of legs sheathed in tights, taken either in the street or on television. His practice is reminiscent of Miroslav Tichy's, with the difference that our author sometimes becomes an actor himself. In both cases - as is often the case in art brut - the burning questions of the artification of our gaze and of the part of the collective imagination that infuses such an individual mythology are raised.

Since 2005, the christian berst art brut gallery has been demonstrating that art brut is not confined to any one period, geographical area or even a formal spectrum. Rather, it questions the notion of individual mythology dear to Harald Szeemann. By putting its passion at the service of creators off the beaten track, whether they are "classics" already consecrated by museums and collections or contemporary discoveries promised to be recognized by the art world, the gallery tends, through its exhibitions and publications, to bring an ever-wider public into the mysteries of art brut.
