Durant sa formation d’architecte, Daniel Bourgais affine sa perception du lien entre l’architecture, le paysage et la question du milieu. Il développe une sensibilité particulière pour la réhabilitation de l’existant, des ruines... Son approche d’artiste plasticien s’inscrit dans cette continuité, la question de la trace et du souvenir sont au cœur de ses explorations du paysage. Il expérimente la photogrammétrie comme processus de création et de mise en valeur de l’environnement qui l’entoure et prolonge une réflexion globale et poétique sur le rapport entre l’Homme et la Nature. Le processus créatif de Daniel Bourgais consiste à prendre des centaines de photos d’un paysage pour en multiplier les perspectives. L’artiste illustre ces espaces à travers des portraits en nuages de points, en utilisant la photogrammétrie comme outil de post-production, lui permettant de réinterpréter ces territoires. La thématique de la fragmentation du réel est récurrente dans son travail, laissant transparaître la volonté de collecter les traces d’un monde en mutation.

Pour a ppr oc he extended, Daniel Bourgais présente un ensemble de vidéos déambulatoires au cœur de ces paysages numérisés, figés dans une dimension entre tangible et digital. Cette tension entre deux espaces est renforcée par la présentation d’un solo show physique à l’occasion de la 8e édition du salon a ppr oc he, une semaine avant extended. La proposition de Daniel Bourgais représente un pont entre les deux salons, dévoilant chacun une expérience complémentaire. D’une part, l’artiste ancre ses Paysages morcelés dans le réel et leur donne une existence tangible, et d’autre part, il propose une expérience immersive et onirique au sein de la galerie virtuelle. Les œuvres sont issues de plusieurs séries autour du territoire urbain : La Ceinture, paysages invisibles autour de la petite ceinture de Paris, Jardin de l’Arche, paysage en mouvement réalisé entre Courbevoie et La Défense, ainsi que New-York Textures, une étude poétique de la skyline newyorkaise.

During his architectural training, Daniel Bourgais refined his understanding of the relationship between architecture, landscape, and the environment. He developed a particular sensitivity to the rehabilitation of existing structures, including ruins. His approach as a visual artist follows this trajectory, with the concepts of trace and memory at the heart of his explorations of landscapes. He experiments with photogrammetry as a creative process to highlight the environment around him, extending a broader and poetic reflection on the relationship between humans and nature. Daniel Bourgais’ creative process involves taking hundreds of photographs of a landscape to multiply perspectives. He portrays these spaces through point cloud portraits, using photogrammetry as a post-production tool that allows him to reinterpret these territories. The theme of the fragmentation of reality is recurring in his work, reflecting his desire to collect the traces of a world in transition.

For a ppr oc he extended, Daniel Bourgais presents a series of walk-through videos at the heart of these digitized landscapes, suspended in a space between the tangible and the digital. This tension between two realms is further emphasized by the presentation of a physical solo show during the 8th edition of the a ppr oc he salon, one week prior to extended. Daniel Bourgais’ proposal serves as a bridge between the two events, each offering a complementary experience. On one hand, the artist anchors his Fragmented landscapes in reality, giving them a tangible existence, while on the other hand, he offers an immersive and dreamlike experience within the virtual gallery. The works come from several series focused on urban territories: La Ceinture, invisible landscapes around the petite ceinture of Paris, Jardin de l’Arche, a landscape in motion created between Courbevoie and La Défense, in the Parisian suburbs, and New-York Textures, a poetic study of the New York skyline.

Diplômé de l’école d’architecture ENSA Normandie, Daniel Bourgais développe depuis plusieurs années sa pratique artistique. Ses travaux ont été exposés au Bastille Design Center, à la Galerie Porte B, à l’espace Carpeaux à Courbevoie et distingués à plusieurs reprises notamment à l’occasion du prix Don Papa Art Program 2022 ainsi qu’une sélection pour la Biennale de l’Image Tangible 2.0, présentée par la Galerie Data en 2023.

A graduate of the ENSA Normandie School of Architecture, Daniel Bourgais has been developing his artistic practice for several years. His works have been exhibited at the Bastille Design Center, the Galerie Porte B, and the Espace Carpeaux in Courbevoie, and have received several distinctions, notably the Don Papa Art Program Prize in 2022, as well as a selection for the Biennale de l’Image Tangible 2.0, presented by Galerie Data in 2023.
