Lucas Leffler is inspired by the alchemical nature of the photographic medium, between magic and science. One day, while still a student at the Beaux Arts, he came across a press article that recounted the incredible adventure of two workers at the former Agfa photographic film factory in Antwerp, at the end of the 1990s. After losing their jobs, the two friends decide to retrieve from the mud of the river soiled by the from the river mud contaminated by the polluting waste from their former factory, the silver salts used in the manufacture of photo paper. They are obviously interested in silver but the content is far too low to make a fortune. A dashed hope. Thirty years later, Lucas Leffler, fascinated by this story, takes his shovel and his bucket. He brought back litres of mud from the Silver Creek to his workshop and, after months of "Silver Creek" and, after months of testing, created his own photographic emulsion. These silver prints of mud, shots of the river and what remains of the river and what remains of the factory, are at once a photographic experiment, an artistic experimentation, an artistic performance and the quest for a Holy Grail.
For a ppr oc he, Lucas Leffler will present nine mud prints in two different formats mounted in a raw steel frame. Zilverbeek or the story of a man who took mud from a river and turned it into silver.
Lucas Leffler studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Gent (Belgium) from 2016 to 2019. His work has been presented in the group exhibition reGeneration4 at the Musée de l'Elysée (Lausanne), at the Art Paris fair at the Grand Palais, at the Manifesto festival in
Toulouse, and in numerous group exhibitions in Belgium. He will also participate in the Photo Brussels Festival #05 The World Within, at the Hangar Art Center (Brussels) and the Biennale de l'Image Tangible, in Paris.
Galerie Intervalle
Since 2014, Intervalle has been advocating for its artists and promoting their work to amateurs and collectors, at the gallery and at fairs. The gallery is located on the slopes of Belleville, in Paris, where it exhibits where it exhibits images that shed light on our view of the world. Intervalle represents nine French and foreign artists and has exhibited twenty-three.
