Les jours avenir

In her practice, Camille Benarab-Lopez explores our relationship to the image, its temporality and its flatness. Her work begins with a collection of visuals from different sources and with different statuses, which gives rise, through multiple techniques and mediums, to a process of both pictorial and sculptural montage and composition. Faced with the anxiety caused by the scattering and dissemination of images, the artist tries to keep them together, to assemble them by correspondence, by association, by dissonance. She creates abstract, sensual and disconcerting works, in which the dual impulses of desire and frustration are combined, thus aiming to contain the visual influx and to offer an abstract space to occupy.

In Les jours avenir, Camille explores her inability to create her own images, combined with her need to compile and relate those of others. How can they be cherished? What do they have to say? Can they be contained? A solo show conceived as a prelude to her first solo show at the Chloe Salgado Gallery.

Camille Benarab-Lopez graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (2014) and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris (2018). She was a resident at the Casa Velázquez — Académie de France in Madrid (2015) and at the Cité Internationale des Arts (2016). She is the winner of the ICART Artistik Rezo Prize (2020) as well as the FoRTE — Fonds Régional pour les Talents Émergents grant (2021), and took part in the 71st edition of Jeune Création (2021). In November, she will take part in the 2nd Biennale de l’Image Tangible and will present her first solo show at the Galerie Chloe Salgado.
